LISA VAN NOORDEN

My work is very present, it is not a shadow on the wall. I know I will never be commended for making ‘happy’ art. But then: who cares? Happy art is for hotel rooms and furniture stores. Happy art is art that has been stripped of all the perverse sentiments and motives of everyday life: our rapacious greed and unlimited lust for power, our insane pursue for sexual satisfaction, our unconcealed boredom and loathsome moodyness. The concept of my work revolves around young people and their ways of survival and self-protection in our complicated insane environment, from the horrors of war to the fake glitz of stardom. I work very accurate and precise. This accuracy adds to and is meant to emphasize the “untouchable” image of my characters. They are icons; of lost innocense, of boredom, of vulnerability.
